I gotta say, you got a lot of hair on your head so I can see why a headband would come in handy :) I am just like Jennifer, thin hair, #2 magnet :)

You are doing an amazing job reciting the details :)

I love the colors, girl!!! You know I'm a Techno girl too :). I would have seriously panicked about having to hold the headpiece on with a headband or something. We had to go to a stronger magnet at my second ear's activation because of more swelling, I think. The first magnet did stay on, but was really easy to knock off, and I play with my hair a lot so we knew right away that that was going to be a pain. I have very thin hair so magnets aren't an issue for me.
I am loving reading your experiences...you are chronicling this so well and I am so happy for you! :)

Thanks so much, everyone!

Julie, I'm so glad you found my blog and that it's helping. :) If you ever have any questions, just holler -- I grew up with hearing aids so I know what it's like (although this was back in the 60's with different technology).

Karen, I always went with beige HA's. I used to want to hide them. Now for some reason I'm eager to show off my CI's. Crazy!

Laurie and Shari, you've both been so supportive and I really appreciate your good wishes!

One of my questions was answered here. I was thinking if both the processor and back-up processor get mapped, and the back-up or second one does get mapped, even if it is for future mappings. :)

That must have been worrysome to think about how to keep the CI on when the magnets were weak for a week. So glad the audie found them. I have thick hair, so I think I am going to put it up in a similiar ponytail like you did. Just in case.

I am so glad that your experience is so good. I realize everyone's experience is so different and some are similiar.

Every day...little by little....the sounds get better....I'm excited for you.

Hey Wendi,

I am so glad to read you are doing well! I understand a lot of your experience with the buzzing sound. Haha. I'm glad that you have enjoyed your CI's! Awesome! I do love the colors. I went with plain old old boring beige. I'm a plain person so it works out. Haha. I've been thinking about you and just so happy to read your blog!

Hi,

(New visitor...)

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for writing in such detail about your experience. (I read back about your surgery, too.)

I have a 9.5 y.o. son who is HoH. Deaf in his left ear, moderate to severely impaired in the right. At this time he's still using a HA, but as his hearing loss has progressed we will probably be looking at CI in the future.

I've read other parents' blogs, about getting their kids implanted, but the kids are usually so young that they can't give much feedback about the experience, and don't usually remember "before".

His audio still believes he is better served by the HA at this point, (and the longer we hold off on the CI, the better the technology will get... we hope!). I am really thankful to have others' detailed experience to share with him when he has questions I can't answer.

I am amazed at how adaptable the brain is... to learn to "re-hear", or however you would describe it. To take the new way things sound, and make it familiar. Wow.

I am thrilled for you! I wish you wonderful hearing with your CIs!
